Copart fees explained: what you pay on top of the bid

The winning bid is never the price of the car. Here is every Copart fee as published on copart.com for standard vehicles, what changes with a non-clean title or a credit card, and what a buyer without a license adds on top.

Direct access to Copart, IAAI and Manheim for $100. Not a broker bidding for you: your own login on the three official auction sites, under our Florida dealer license. You see every lot, you place every bid, you keep full control. No dealer license needed, no membership. The $100 is one-time and is credited toward your deposit and your car.

Copart buyer fee (standard vehicle, clean title, secured funds)

Copart’s buyer fee is a tiered amount based on the final bid price. These are the published tiers for standard vehicles with a clean title paid with secured funds (debit card, wire, MoneyGram):

Final bid priceBuyer fee
$0 – $49.99$25
$500 – $549.99$185
$1,000 – $1,199.99$325
$2,000 – $2,399.99$470
$2,500 – $2,999.99$500
$3,000 – $3,499.99$600
$4,500 – $5,999.99$750
$6,000 – $7,499.99$800
$8,000 – $9,999.99$840
$10,000 – $14,999.99$850
$15,000 and up7.25%

Non-clean (salvage) titles use a slightly higher schedule: for example $1,000 at $10,000–$14,999.99 and 7.5% from $15,000. Heavy vehicles have their own tables. Copart updates these schedules; the current version is always on the copart.com member fees page.

Unsecured funds cost more

Paying with a credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay switches you to the unsecured schedule: roughly 10% to 25% higher per tier and 12.25% instead of 7.25% above $15,000. Pay by wire or debit card if you can.

Gate fee, bid fees and the rest

  • Gate fee: $79 on every purchase (higher in some locations), covering the move from storage to the loading area.
  • Virtual bid fee: charged on every online win, based on the high bid. Pre-bid: free under $100, then $39 to $129. Live bid: $49 to $149.
  • Late payment fee: $50 per vehicle if the full amount is not paid within 3 business days including the sale day.
  • Relist fee: if a lot is not paid within 8 calendar days it is relisted and a fee of 10% of the sale price, $600 minimum, is charged (taken from your deposit if you have one).
  • Storage: varies by yard, charged per day after the free period.
  • Title mailing: $15 by USPS or $20 by FedEx for up to 10 titles; $20 handling per title picked up in person.

Worked example: a $4,000 clean-title sedan

Copart side: $4,000 bid + $710 buyer fee + $79 gate fee + $99 pre-bid fee = $4,888 paid to Copart with secured funds.
Through BasicMobile: add our $200 service fee for a car under $5,000. Transport, title work and any taxes are quoted separately.
Deposit on file to bid up to $4,000: $600 (10% with a $600 minimum), including your first $100.

Compare this to a broker: the same Copart fees apply, plus the broker’s fee and deposit terms. See Copart broker fees.

Questions about copart fees

How much are Copart fees on a $5,000 car?

With a clean title and secured funds: a $750 buyer fee, the $79 gate fee and a $99 pre-bid fee, so about $928 on top of the bid. A credit card raises the buyer fee to $1,000.

Does Copart charge a membership fee?

Copart has a free Basic membership and a paid Premier level; the fees above apply to both. Through BasicMobile there is no membership at all, only the $100 account setup and a service fee when you win.

Are Copart fees different for buyers without a license?

Copart’s own fee schedule does not depend on your license. What changes is who can bid on the lot, and whether a broker or dealer fee is added on top.
